Sake in Hiroshima

During the Edo Period (1603-1867), sake brewing was very popular along the Saigoku Kaido Highway in Hiroshima, and there were many sake breweries in the area. In Hiroshima City, four sake breweries are still active in sake brewing today. One of them, (Horai-zuru), continues brewing in the basement of an apartment building. At the Saigoku Kaido Festival,  you can enjoy sake from all four of those old Hiroshima breweries.
